DAY 1: OLD SAN JUAN
Arrive in San Juan and meet your tour director and staff. Tour Old San Juan, one of the New World’s oldest living cities. Walk through the old city’s colorful streets as you explore World UNESCO Heritage outdoor sites, such as Castillo San Felipe del Morro or Castillo San Cristóbal. Learn about cool legends, residents’ traditions, and a ghost story or two on our unique walking tour. Head to the town of Lajas in southwestern Puerto Rico.
DAY 2: LA PARGUERA
Hike around and swim at Cabo Rojo’s “Playa Sucia” with breathtaking views or relax at Boquerón Beach or at Combate Beach, both favorite local beaches. After lunch, head to the fishing village of La Parguera. Board a private US Coast Guard certified boat for a guided tour of La Parguera’s mangrove cays; interact with a local fisherman in our unique sea creatures’ presentation. After sunset, enjoy a supervised swim at night with dinoflagellates and experience the unique glowing effect of our bioluminescent bay.
DAY 3: SAN JUAN
After breakfast, tour a locally owned and sustainable pineapple or a coffee plantation on your way to San Juan. Participate in a digital scavenger hunt at a farmers’ market and try fresh tropical fruits as you interact with vendors. After an authentic lunch, participate in an outdoor people to people service-learning project in the afternoon with dinner at or near the service location. Head to Fajardo for the night.
DAY 4: EL YUNQUE
Discover El Yunque, the U.S.’ only tropical rainforest, on a private open-air eco-tour. Activities include sightseeing, guided walks, hikes, and optional swimming under waterfalls. Have a traditional rainforest lunch at an authentic restaurant. Relax at pristine Luquillo beach. In the evening, enjoy a farewell outdoor dinner then head to our hotel in Fajardo for group reflection, and an optional game of “dominós.”
DAY 5: OLD SAN JUAN
Spend your last day in San Juan as we travel to Santurce’s La Placita, home of the island’s best smoothies. Go deep into Calle Serra as we learn about the world-famous murals and street graffiti that have transformed this community. If time permits, enjoy an “Afro-Caribbean” lunch at Piñones. Sample unique Puerto Rican snacks such as “alcapurrias,” “bacalaítos,” and “pinchos” with an ocean front view or participate in an Afro-Caribbean Bomba dance workshop before you head home.
